Oddities

I had another interview with the GE people. It was in Winfield, KS. I stayed in Wichita the night before so I wouldnt have to drive as much. On my way out of town, I ran into some road construction. They had a 2 mile stretch of highway tore up with 10+ big ass cranes all along it. I wish I had my camera on me to get some pics of this. Also, in Winfield at a JiffyLube there were these 4 "grease monekys" standing outside by the road holding up signs for their oil services. I guess they had nothing better to do. If it were me I would be doing somethings inside. Thats what signs are for. But, if thats what they wanted to do its all good. Maybe that buisness is in alot of financial trouble so they were doing everything they could to save it.

Guild Wars = Badass Game. All my reservations about the game were put to rest. Its alot of fun by yourself or with other people. On your own, you get all the treasure. Playing with other people makes the quests easier but you only get some of the treasure. All in all, its really fun and I would reccomend it to anyone who is looking into playing an MMORPG. I can't say I'v played the PVP portion of the game yet, but I will let you know when that happens.

MMORPG

Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game. There are alot of people out there who play these games: Everquest, World of Warcraft, City of Heros, etc. Well, it looks as though I may soon join these people. For my birthday, my finace is getting me Guild Wars. Normally, I would never play one of these games. The main reason being that on top of purchasing the game, you must pay monthly fees and buy every new update that comes along or be left playing alone. Also, they take up a ton of time, something that I rarely have enough of.

Guild Wars solves enough of these problems that I decided to try it out. First, there are no monthly fees. Once you buy the game you can keep playing it without spending extra cash. Also, you do not have to buy the expansions. If you want the new areas, characters, and skills you have to buy the expansions. However, you can still play with the people who are playing with the expansions when you do not own them. The official website compares it to magic the gathering. Players with the newest expansions(deck) can make more varied characters(cards in deck), but does not neccisarily make better characters. So a lv 20 of one an old character would be comparable with a lv 20 of the new character. Unfortunatly, this does not solve the problem of time consumption. It looks like I am going to just have to deal.

Internship News

I had an interview a week or so ago with GE transportation. It went alright, not really good or bad. Anyway, I got a call back from them yesterday. I am going down to visit the plant in Ark City on Wednesday. I am not sure if I got the internship yet, but it looks promising. Hopefully I get it and can quit Kmart. I am so sick of that job. I dont think I could stay there even if I was staying in Manhattan.

KAE

First off I just want to say that we got the church at the date we wanted and at about the time we wanted. That went pretty well now on to the Kansas Award of Excellence.

The KAE is bullshit. To apply a lot of money has to be spent. First, there is the part where you want to say your interested in applying, thats a $50-$100 per department in an organization. They then submit a small self assesment ~8pgs per department. Then the next year they can submit and intent to submit which is $200 and ~15 pgs per department. And then they send back what you said and say "oh this and this needs more work". And you may have to submit a intent multiple times before they give you the flag to actually submitt an application. I'm not sure how much that costs but im sure its more. Here's the thing though. Any legitamate organization can win the KAE. It doesn't matter if you are the crappiest organization in the state, as long as you are able to asses yourself well, or pay someone to asses you, you can win the award. It's all about how well you are able to talk about yourself, not any degress of "excellence".

Open House

So open house was pretty sweet. We demoed our dodgeball mod for quake3. It was looking pretty good, but there are still some deffinite bugs. Some balls dissapear, and the game will crash on occasion. So I spend the better half of the day just playing dodgeball. I got really good at catching which is important if you end up in a 1-1 or 1-2 situation.

Also, I had an interview today with someone from the Coffeyville refinery. It was kinda short so I'm not sure how well it went. The guy didn't have many questions for me, so I just tried to make due. As it turned out, he stopped by the CIS display later in the day. I talked to him briefly about the project and a little about what we did to it. I hope he didn't think I blowed him off. I asked if he wanted to try it, and he declined. So I just kept playing.

Spring Break

OK so, teacup had a kitten. Just 1 and its black w/ a white spot under its neck. It was really big and growing fast since he was alone. We went to Wichita for spring break. I got to see the gorillas at the zoo for the first time. I also got to see a baby chimp give head to a bigger chimp. That's always nice. Not a whole lot else went down. I got some Easter candy, which was good. Oh, I have an appointment with Kristy with the priest of the church we want to get married at. So hopefully everything goes well with that.
